Habitat: west-facing slope of Bouteloua gracilis grassland with Aristida purpurea, Artemisia tridentata, Atriplex canescens, Berberis fremontii, Cylindropuntia whipplei, Ephedra viridis, Escobaria vivipara, Gutierrezia sarothrae, Juniperus osteosperma, Krascheninnikovia lanata, Opuntia erinacea, O. phaeacantha, and Senecio flaccidus.
Description: Cespitose; locally numerous individuals, on both sides of road; this individual with sterile pollen; flowers photographed and pressed (misplaced) 20 April 2000 after transplanting (outside garden) to Chino Valley, Arizona; tepals pink; bud photographed 1 April 2010; flowers photographed and collected 25 April 2010.
