Plants perennial, herbaceous, 0.5-2 m tall; caudex woody, branched, often deeply rooted; herbage sparsely pubescent; hairs minute, stellate; stems erect, often branched. Leaves all cauline; petioles 2-7(10) cm long; blades 4.5-10(14) cm long, 4.5-16 (cm) wide, cordate-orbicular, palmately 3-7 lobed; margins coarsely toothed. venation palmate; lobe tips acute to acuminate.
