Locality: Maricopa County: Grown in cultivation at Desert Botanical Garden, Phoenix, N 33 deg 27' 33'', W 111 deg 56' 35'', 1200 ft., 366 m; accession number 2013-0437-01-1; originally received as Echinocereus engelmannii; This had a tag with #1976-0252-01-1 Echinocereus engelmannii and was determined to be mis-tagged by Raul Puente, given a new accession number and is considered to a plant not of known wild origin.
Description: Plant multi-stemmed, height 8 inches; stems green, rib count 9; spines whtie or tan with dark tips, 1 long central spine; flowers collected late afternoon, diameter 47-52 mm, length 61-69 mm, outer perianth mauve with reddish-brown mid-stripe, inner periath rosy mauve at tips with hot bink at base, beautiful, sepals are firm and succulent; stigma lobe number 9-11, bright green; style pale green; filament pale green with pink or rose at the top.
